A Mesa man who was pulled over after making a wide right turn early Sunday morning was found with an open can of Bud Light in the car and a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
After observing the white sedan make a wide right turn, the officer pulled over its driver at the intersection of Lesueur and Broadway Road.
Eden Lopez-Flores, 28, was pulled over about 2:30 a.m. near Mesa Drive and Broadway Road.
He told the officer he did not have a form of identification but verbally identified himself.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol in the vehicle the officer saw the man's left eye to be bloodshot and watery.
The man told the officer he knew very little English but was able to tell the officer he had drank two or three cans of Bud Light. The officer saw an open 12 ounce can of Bud Light in the vehicle.
Another officer then arrived to help with the Spanish interpretation. Lopez-Flores performed multiple field sobriety tests. Many signs of impairments were observed. A breathalyzer indicated his blood alcohol content was .214, nearly three times the legal limit of .08.
The man told the Spanish-language officer his name was Eden Lopez Flores and that he had never given another name to law enforcement.
The man was transported to Mesa Jail to be booked. After being booked in Mesa Jail, police found he had been previously arrested under the name of Agapito Lopez-Flores with the same date of birth associated with Eden.
The man told officers Agapito was his father's name and he had used that name when arrested in the past. According to court documents, no motor vehicle records existed for Agapito with the given date of birth but a record for Eden Flores-Lopez showed his driving privileges had been suspended.
Eden Flores-Lopez was charged with aggravated DUI, driving on a suspended license, false reporting, failure to have identification and having an open container in his vehicle, court documents say.
